Auditions Announced for "Anything Goes," music and lyrics by Cole Porter

The Fullerton College Theatre Arts Department announces auditions for the "Standing Room Only" High School Summer Musical Theatre Conservatory and the Broadway musical, "Anything Goes". S.R.O. is open to all incoming high school freshmen through graduating high school seniors who are interested in gaining extensive experience in all phases of musical theatre production. Openings are available for performers and behind-the-scenes positions. College students are also invited to audition.

Auditions will be held Saturday, May 14 at 2:00 p.m. in Room 1111 on the Fullerton College Campus, 321 E. Chapman Avenue.

Auditions will include a vocal and a dance audition. Please bring music from a pop tune or musical in the key in which you plan to sing and dress appropriately for the dance audition. Students do not need to have prior production experience to audition.

Approximately 50-60 high school students will be accepted to the Conservatory, which begins on June 21 and continues through July 20. Students will attend classes and rehearsals Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Classes are taught by a staff of professional theatre artists and include dance, voice, musical theatre, movement, scene painting, and costume construction techniques.

Students will also rehearse and perform in the full-scale Broadway musical, "Pirates of Penzance," directed by Gary Krinke, John Vaughan, and John Tebay. Performances will run July 20-23, 2005 at Fullerton College.

The inclusion of college level theatre student mentors in the S.R.O. program enhances the learning experience for Conservatory students. The college students not only participate in the production, but work directly with the high school students during the afternoon rehearsals.

"We recenly celebrated the 25th anniversary of SRO. We have grown so much over the years," says Krinke. "Using the older, more experienced students as mentors has enabled us to increase the one-on-one interaction with the high school students, and added even more to an already extensive theatrical experience."

All students students accepted into the program will enroll in five units of college classes and are responsible for all registration fees.
