The Resident Theatre Company at Fullerton College is seeking submissions of original full-length and short-act plays for its 15th annual Playwright's Festival to be held January 2-1, 2006 at Fullerton College, 321 E. Chapman Avenue. Deadline for submissions is Wednesday November 1, 2005. For information, call (714) 992-7425.

Each year RTC's Playwrights' Festival assembles a company of student actors, professional directors, and a professional dramaturge in a two week process of helping playwrights to discover and develop their plays. Each play is given a careful workshop critique, several rehearsals, and a prepared reading for an audience of company members and general public, followed by a post-presentation discussion with thhe audience. Playwrights are encouraged to attend allworkshop readings, discussions, and readings. A small stipend is available forlocal travel expenses.

Company members in the Festival have the unique opportunity to participate inthe script development process from several angles. Performers will have thechance to be the first to bring life to a written character, as well aslearning the skills of efficient preparation for script-in-hand reading and theflexibility necessary for working with a fluid and changing script. Companymembers will watch the unfolding process and see how various choices impact thedirection of a play, and will learn various critical tools to help understandwhy and how a piece of theater has its effect. By the time of the rehearsedreadings, members of the company will be able to respond to the scripts both asperformers and as colleagues of the playwrights.

There are also positions available for assistant dramaturges: students whowant to focus on the playmaking and revision process. Assistant dramaturgeswill learn critical tools and methods for useful and positive interaction withplaywrights in the middle of a sensitive and often fragile revision process. This will be valuable for those interested in writing themselves, as well as forthose studying critical theory.

At the helm of the Playwright's Festival is the Resident Theatre Company'sArtistic Director, director and actress Andrea Morgan.

"We look forward to the Festival each year," says Morgan. "There is somuch talent out there and we are always excited to be able to offer a forum forplaywrights to really dig in and develop their work."

Mast received his M.F.A. in Playwrighting from UCLA.Two of his adaptations for the stage --"Twenty Thousand Leagues Under theSea" and "The Time Machine or Love Among the Eloi" were developed duringFestival workshops and then given world premiere productions at Fullerton College.
